William E. Mangum Children’s Development Center (CDC) (operated on site) is a State Licensed 5 Star Rated child care facility as well as an early intervention program.  The CDC serves children of Mission residents as well as providing free childcare for “at risk” homeless families from the community who are then able to work and avoid homelessness.  Children receive individual attention and the special care needed to overcome trauma and the negative impacts of homelessness.   Children and families receive interventions for the professional help families need to stabilize and thrive.  Parenting skills are taught that foster healthy parent-child relations which greatly reduces family stress that often leads to child abuse.  Featured educational and social activities allow parents the opportunity to experience a fun drug/alcohol free lifestyle and entertainment alternatives. Children become better prepared for school and success later in life as the CDC breaks the “future” cycle of homelessness in the life of a child by early intervention “today”.
